EHS Medical Group is a physician-owned medical professional corporation and integrated health care delivery system that
was founded for the purpose of contracting with self-funded Taft-Hartley ERISA Trust Funds and the State of
California's Medi-Cal Primary Care Case Management (PCCM) program in Los Angeles County. In the 1990s, EHS modified its
focus from the PCCM model of Medi-Cal managed care to a delegated independent physicians association (IPA) model.
In the Greater Los Angeles area, the EHS provider network currently consists of over 450 primary care physicians, 1,500 specialists, 20 hospitals, and all required ancillary services. EHS is currently responsible for the health care benefits of more than 50,000 members.
EHS is one of the top five enrollment entities for the Healthy Families program, California's version of the federal State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP),
providing subsidized health care for uninsured children of families making less than 250% of the federal poverty level. EHS is also the largest provider
for the California Health Initiative's Healthy Kids program, providing subsidized health care for uninsured and undocumented children
of families making less than 300% of the federal poverty level. All medical direction and quality of care issues are managed by EHS.
In 2006, EHS partnered with
SynerMed
as its management partner. SynerMed specializes in government program managed care (including Medi-Cal, Medicare, Healthy Families
and Healthy Kids) and is the largest such management services organization in the state.
